A large majority of millennials are seeking out properties that are move-in ready and have room for customizations. They don't mind finding a home that needs cosmetic changes and are really looking for a home in overall good shape and condition. But, millennials are also seeking out homes that steer clear of these 5 home upgrades.
Extravagant Landscaping
Indoor plants are now the hit amongst millennials. While other generations may love working in the yard and perfecting their lawns, busy millennials have opted for an easier approach by adding greenery to the inside of their homes. They also prefer an outdoor space that is simple and easy to maintain.
Dining Rooms
Millennials are saying so long to the cherished dinner time at the dining room table. They view a dining room as a waste of space and would rather eat in or near the kitchen. Breakfast nooks or bar stools and a convenient meal are the new approach for this younger generation.
Floor Plans
Multifunctional rooms are the new designated floor plans. The younger generation prefers open spaces with more of a “flow” from room to room. Older generations were perfectly fine with a mapped out floor plan of the master bedroom, living area, dining room, etc. But, millennials no longer feel that same way.
New Flooring
Thinking of adding new carpet to the bedrooms or living areas? Think again. Instead, millennials would rather have bare floors to add a colorful statement rug to the room. In the living spaces, laminate, tile, and hardwood are preferred and are much more pet-friendly for this animal-loving generation.
Memorabilia
Showcasing memorabilia is a thing of the past. It will even turn off this generation if you’re showcasing them in your home. Millennials don’t have that same desire to keep, collect, and show off all of the items they have accumulated over the years. Instead, put away the knick-knacks and lean towards the digital era by staging these items in a media room.
