Pet Proofing Your Home? Here's Some Advice...

If you’re living in your own place, you know that pets could potentially start to cause damage to your home. We’ve outlined some helpful information to make sure that your place is pet-proof and safe for your fur friends to live in.

Flooring

Typically, carpets aren’t the best form of flooring. From stains to pet hair to chew marks, there’s a ton of maintenance that comes along with carpet. Hardwood floors are stylish, can be scratch resistant, and may be a better choice to make if you have a pet. But, if you can’t part with the carpet, pick one that is similar in color to the pet’s hair and make sure to trim their paws.

Furniture

While you may be tempted to let your pets on the furniture, try to steer clear. If you absolutely can’t resist their friendly cuddles, cover your furniture with a blanket or protective covering. You can always provide your pet with a bed right next to it filled with their toys and maybe a treat or two!

Designate Off Limit Areas

The next way to minimize pet damage is to designate areas of your home that are off limits to your pets. For example, guest rooms, the laundry area, nurseries, etc. If these places don’t have a door, you can restrict them with stair gates. Pet-free zones keep your home tidy and create a zone for any guests that come over that aren’t the most fond of animals.

Put Deterrents In Place

If you weren’t aware, pet can be sensitive to strong smells. One way to deter pets from furniture and spaces they could crawl is by using pet sprays. There are many options available online to purchase, but you could also use natural ones such as vinegar. This can definitely help keep your cats off the counter, too!
