Exterior Things You Shouldn't Miss During A Home Tour

The new reality of real estate during the COVID-19 pandemic has made video tours quite popular! They are now the go-to alternative to in-person showings and for prospective buyers that can leave a few questions about a property up in the air. To ensure a smooth virtual tour, ask your real estate agent to observe these exterior features when viewing properties for you.

Neighbors’ Houses – It’s great having friendly neighbors, but not if they become a little too close for comfort. If you’re entertaining at your home, you want to picture how your neighbors would feel from their home. How close are the properties to each other? Can you hear each other from the backyard? The front yard? Double-check your decision during the video tour from your agent and maybe consider asking them to measure how close the lawns are to each other.

Outdoor Components – This can really mean a wide variety of things such as sheds, gates, fences, driveways, and even pools. Anything that shows wear and tear could affect your home-buying decision and you will want to ask your agent to show close-up’s of these things on camera.

Landscaping – Take note of any landscaping that needs to be done. Mulching, weeding, mowing, and large trees will all be under your care if you become the homeowner. These costs can add up, so factor the landscaping into your decision-making!

All Sides Of The House – Putting on a fresh coat of paint can make a huge difference in the home’s curb appeal. There are also other exterior items that you should fix including large cracks in foundation, rotted trim, aging roof tiles, or problems with the A/C unit. These are things that a buyer would want to know the cost of before going through with the offer.

Sounds – Ask your agent for a little bit of silence while they are outside and taking the video tour. This will allow you to listen for any noises in the neighborhood such as planes overhead, trains nearby, dogs barking, or general traffic.
