8 Must-See AZ Holiday Events

Ah, the holiday season. For many, this time of year consists of family traditions, time with friends, and a list of fun things to do. And specifically, in Arizona, it means cooler weather and your choice of some pretty amazing outdoor events. Even cooler? Some of the most anticipated and enjoyable valley events are almost in full swing.

Here are some of the top holiday to-dos in Arizona that we know you’ll want to see in person.

Christmas at the Princess
If you’ve ever set foot in the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, you know how beautiful and relaxing the resort actually is. But around holiday time, the resort transforms into an epicenter of winter fun! Dubbed “Christmas at the Princess,” the event is chalked full of fun for the entire family. Events range from milk and cookies with Santa to  ice skating, story time, holiday character appearances, and so much more.

Polar Express
Inspired by the book, the Polar Express in Williams, AZ is the perfect place to take your kids this holiday season. The whole family can hop on board the Grand Canyon Railway, which will be transformed into the Polar Express and headed straight for the North Pole! The kiddos can enjoy milk and cookies, visit with Santa, listen to a reading of The Polar Express, and enjoy one of the coolest train rides around.

The Nutcracker

There are a few perfectly timeless traditions in Arizona, and The Nutcracker is definitely one of them. The production is put on by the Ballet Arizona, and is a beautiful interpretation of the ballet, filled with dancing mice, sugar plum fairies, and so much more. Although some performances can sell out extra fast, you can usually find great seats if you plan. And we definitely recommend planning on this one!

Zoolights

The Phoenix Zoo’s Zoolights has been a tradition for over 30 years, and offers one of the coolest holiday displays around. Bring the entire family to take a long walk in the amazing, cool weather to enjoy a massive light display that features hundreds of animals created from holiday lights. Enjoy snacks, hot cocoa, and holiday music as you stroll along and get in the holiday spirit. You won’t want to miss this one!

CitySkate

Did somebody say ice skating? CitySkate is, without a doubt, one of the coolest winter additions downtown Phoenix’s Cityscape. Opening in early November, you and your entire family can get your ice skating on under the stars. Plus, you can enjoy a beautiful giant Christmas tree, and a ton of options for drinks and snacks right around the rink.

Luminarias at Botanical Gardens

The botanical gardens are already absolutely beautiful, but during the holidays, the entire garden becomes filled with beautifully lit luminarias. What is a luminaria, you may ask? They’re little paper lanterns that are often used to line pathways, buildings, and even rooftops. The tradition is called “Las Noches de las Luminarias” and includes entertainment, plenty of twinkle lights, and delicious warm drinks. Tickets run around $50 for adults and $19 for children, and this year, will include the Chihuly in the Desert exhibition at night.

APS Electric light parade

Who doesn’t love a good parade? The APS Electric Light Parade has been going strong in Phoenix for around 30 years, and kicks off whether it’s rain or shine! Enjoy the cold air, beautifully decorated floats, and even a visit from the big guy himself, Santa! The event is always a blast, and the entire family is sure to love it!

The holiday season in Arizona is one of the best times of the year. With fantastic events, gorgeous weather, and the holiday spirit in full swing, you’re sure to find a ton of fun activities that the entire family will love.
