4 Arizona Hot Spots if You Love Sports

4 Arizona Hot Spots if You Love Sports

With the exception of sweltering summers, Arizona is one of the most amazing places for sports lovers to check out a game. With fantastic weather, great bars, some amazing stadiums, and a number of different sports that call the state home, it’s easy to check out a pro game, or pick up a recreational game or sport yourself.

While this can be done almost anywhere in the valley, there are a number of areas that are especially great if you’re a sports lover. Whether it’s baseball, football, basketball, watersports, or golf, Arizona’s got you covered. And these are the best places to get your sports fix.

Westgate

The Westgate Entertainment District calls Glendale home, and offers a ton of great restaurants, shopping, entertainment and, you guessed it, sports.

The area is home to two of Arizona’s biggest stadiums, the Gila River Arena and State Farm Stadium. Looking to catch a Cardinals football game after pregaming at one of the locale’s many bars or restaurants? Then State Farm Stadium is your go-to. The stadium is the first with a completely retractable field, and boasts a potential capacity of over 63,000 and retractable roof.

Downtown Phoenix

Basketball or baseball more your thing? Downtown Phoenix is the place to go to catch a Diamondbacks game at Chase Field. The field can hold upwards of 48,000 people, has a retractable roof, and includes some amazing features (like restaurants perched above the field, and a pool that you can rent out while watching a game, right next to all the action).

Just down the street is Footprint Stadium, where you can catch the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, or Arizona Rattlers (AZ’s own indoor football team). Footprint Stadium has a capacity of just over 18,000 for basketball games, but is also home to a number of concerts. Former performances have included Frank Sinatra, Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses, and The Weeknd.

Scottsdale

Scottsdale is more than just great nightlife and luxury shopping. The city hosts one of sports biggest events, The Waste Management Phoenix Open. Known for bringing in the world’s top golfers, the event can typically host half a million attendees. But you don’t have to attend the Open to experience some of the best golf in the world. Scottsdale is also home to some amazing courses, including TPC (a PGA maintained and run course) and the Estancia Club.

Lake Powell

If you’re not looking to be a spectator, why not take a trip to Lake Powell? Between boating, waterskiing, water rafting, kayaking, and even fishing, there are plenty of water sports to choose from. You can even go scuba diving on the lake, taking off from one of its many dive sites. Many companies even offer lessons at the lake, and it’s the perfect place to stay active while still keeping your cool during Arizona’s hottest months.

Arizona is regarded as one of the best places to stay active. Between a ton of options, great weather, and a huge amount of sports fans calling the Valley home, catching a game (or participating in one yourself), is usually nothing more than a website visit or phone call away. Just make sure you’re prepared to have a blast!
